Expression of Interest are invited for Legal, Regulatory and Institutional Review of Bulgarias Geothermal Sector. Publication Date: 17-Aug-2022 Expression of Interest Deadline: 24-Aug-2022 Bulgaria makes no exception to the European trend of rising prices of energy products, which inevitably has a negative financial impact on industry and business, and consumers. The dependence of Bulgaria on gas supplies from Russia is higher than the EU average. The Bulgarian economy is the most resource- and carbon-intensive in the EU. The greenhouse gas emissions intensity is more than four times higher than the EU average. The energy sector is the largest emitter of greenhouse gases in Bulgaria, accounting for more than 70 % of the countrys total emissions. The key objective of this assignment is to review the overall regulatory framework for geothermal energy in Bulgaria to identify gaps in comparison with international good practices and make recommendations to streamline the regulation and remove key impediments to the development of geothermal energy as a renewable energy source. The review aims at creating an enabling framework for all uses of the geothermal resource.
